Multiplying Our Lives
Dr. Elaine Heath of Perkins School of Theology

SMU’s Vision magazine gives this description of Dr. Heath - “Alternative forms of church, especially the formation of new monastic communities, are Elaine Heath’s major interests in research in  her role as McCreless Assistant Professor of Evangelism. She follows the way such ministries begin to grow and prosper; particularly the way they integrate spiritual formation with justice-oriented mission to heal individual and communal wounds."  “It is impossible to be around Elaine without having your heart inspired, your mind stretched, your commitment deepened and your hope restored,” says Rebecca Frank. Elaine is the author of three books. Her fourth, entitled We Were the Least of These: Reading the Bible with Survivors of Sexual Abuse, is scheduled for release later this year.

The Church as Family
Dr. Andy Stoker – Family Systems Expert

Many UPUMC parents and grandparents are familiar with Andy Stoker’s work through the nine Wednesday night parenting sessions he recently led here at the church. One of the things he is passionate about is reclaiming the cross-generational gifts that churches have the opportunity of offering their members. Andy is a pastor with a doctorate in family studies and currently provides consultation and resources to the 300 United Methodist churches in the North Texas area. Regardless of age you will find that Andy’s charm, energy and enthusiasm will entertain while opening our minds to new ways to think of the church as family.
