Acts of the Apostles
ABOUT THE SUMMER READING PLAN
Acts of the Apostles is a sequel to the Gospel of Luke and continues the story of the early church. Join us this June as we read, study and pray together through this story of hope, courage, and resilience in the face of immense difficulties.
TOOLS FOR READING SCRIPTURE
Action Bible Passages
Try using imaginative prayer. Use your imagination and place yourself in the scene as one of the main characters or as a bystander. What are the sights, sounds, smells, you
notice? What does it feel like to be there experiencing it?
Try using the below ways of simple meditation on the words of scripture:
-Read the text and ask myself: “What does the text say?”
-Read the text again and ask myself: “What does the text say to me?”
-Pray in ways that align myself with the meaning and the implications of the text.
-Journal about the text.
Deepen your understanding
Consider using Bible Study tools like a Bible Dictionary, Concordance, Commentaries, and/or look at a map of the places and journeys mentioned in Acts.
Our Acts of the Apostles booklet uses the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Bible but it can be helpful to also look at how other translations have chosen different words for the selected passage for that day. BibleGateway.com offers many translations - NRSV, NIV and CEB are most commonly used.
