Congregational Care

Concerns of our church members and constituents are of utmost importance. Among the special programs offered at University Park United Methodist Church are the following:

Hospital Visitation
The pastors of UPUMC visit hospitalized members frequently to offer prayer and show Christian concern. Should you or a member of your family enter the hospital or have plans for surgery, please call the Congregational Care office, 214.368.1435, so that we will be aware of your need.

Homebound/Retirement Center Contacts
The pastors and a team of lay volunteers keep in contact with people who are unable to remain active in regular church activities. Please notify the church office (214.368.1435) of address changes or when moving to a care facility. If you feel called to be a lay volunteer, see the information below under Lay Volunteer Ministry to the Homebound.

Stephen Ministry
University Park United Methodist Church is a Stephen Ministry congregation. Read more on the Stephen Ministry page.
The Stephen Ministry referrals coordinator is Carolyn Hubbard. You may call her at 214.368.1307 if you think you might profit by having a Stephen Minister.

Counseling
Pastoral Counseling
You may make an appointment with one of the ministers of our church to receive pastoral counseling.

Counseling Ministry
UPUMC has a professional counseling ministry that offers individual, group, marriage and family therapy. For more information, contact Carolyn Hubbard at 214.368.1307.

Lay Volunteer Ministry to the Homebound
If you would like to minister to the homebound or those who are bereaved, consider serving in one of the ministries listed below. These volunteers meet biannually for support and encouragement, with educational instructions concerning their tasks.

Cards ministry
Volunteers send cards once a month with encouraging messages of Christian love and hope to connect members who are no longer able to attend worship and Sunday school.

Lay visitation
Volunteers visit their care receivers once a month.

Mealmakers Food Ministry
Volunteers prepare and deliver meals for member families in need and crisis situations. The main effort is directed toward those members who do not have a Sunday school class to enfold them in time of need.

Bereavement Team
Volunteers attend to the needs of the member's grieving family with a reception for the family and friends after the funeral or memorial service, if the family so desires. If the service is held in the sanctuary, other volunteers serve as ushers.

Making Disciples Team
Volunteers work faithfully and prayerfully to enfold every new member into the flock at UPUMC. Each new member is strongly encouraged to find a Sunday school class that is a perfect fit, to strive to tithe, to intentionally make worship a holy habit, and to become involved in a mission or outreach project. You are welcome to join this team.
