Cooper School of Discipleship

The Cooper School of Discipleship provides opportunities for Christian adults to grow in faith and discipleship so that they are inspired and equipped to fulfill the great commandment to love God and love others.

The Cooper School offers numerous opportunities to grow in knowledge and understanding of God’s word through small group study of the Bible and its application to our daily lives. The Cooper School also enhances our adult Christian education programming by offering classes on family and topical issues. Classes are held on Sunday evenings or during the week (daytime and evening), and range in duration from a few sessions to our 34-week Disciple 1 study.

Cooper School of Discipleship is a living testament to Dr. Allen Lamar Cooper – friend, scholar and pastor. Lamar was Professor of Christian Social Ethics and Methodist Studies at Perkins School of Theology for over 20 years, and was our Scholar in Residence for over 20 years. His scholarship was aimed at knowing the Bible as a way of better knowing God. For him, that pursuit helped him love God more each day and be driven to share that love and understanding with others throughout his life. That striving is honored by the Cooper School of Discipleship in every course it offers.
